This 8 foot teak bench is nestled into a shade gardens under river birches (Betula nigra) and a redbud (Cercis canadensis). The p-stone path allows the gardener to stroll from the house and sunny lawn into a protected shaded nook to relax and enjoy the garden.

Lovely bench and such healthy slug free hostas - I'm envious!

Gorgeous! What are some of the other plants in this shade garden? My backyard is shady. This look would be perfect!

Because of the River Birches, this garden is on the dry side making it less hospitable to slugs. These blue cadet hosta have grown huge and happy in this environment.

In the foreground there is a large while bleeding heart (Dicentra spectabilis) and along the edges there is a mix of barren strawberry (Waldsteinia ternata) - best weed smotherer. The pink flowers in this photo are sweet William that were planted as annuals and decided to come back - don't count on that happening in your garden. The small tree is a white Redbud (Cercis canadensis alba) and the shrub is a Korean lilac that gets late afternoon sun and still blooms (again not recommended for a shade garden. The evergreens behind the bench are fastigiate white pines - great plant for a narrow space when you can find them!
Happy Shade Gardening!
